Fire up the grill for something unexpectedly delicious this summer! These Tandoori Turkey Kabobs are perfect for all your summer BBQ parties! The Indian Tandoori flavors are what brings the best out of this meat.
Welcome to the season of grilling and chilling with family and friends. Grilling is a great way to spend time outdoors and enjoy food with family. Thanks to the National Turkey Federation for sponsoring this post and kick starting our first grill for the season. My favorite go-to recipe for grilling parties are the Tandoori Turkey Kabobs. Packed with spices and condiments these Kabobs turn out to be very flavorful. They go well with fresh cilantro, tomato, onions and our multipurpose green chutney . Perfect for any summer BBQ party, these Kabobs are a burst of flavors sure to entice your senses.
The reason I like to serve Turkey meat is because
a. Turkey is naturally low in fat and provides immune-boosting nutrients like iron, zinc and potassium. It’s also packed with lean protein to keep people feeling full longer and satisfy their appetite for health and fitness
b. Turkey soaks up all the flavor of whatever seasonings or marinades it’s cooked with, making it a versatile protein and this is one of the primary reasons I use ground turkey whenever I make kabobs like this one.
c. Although turkey is easy to prepare just like chicken,it is a bit more flavorful as it soaks up the seasoning quite nicely and may not need marinating overnight.
Coming back to our Tandoori Turkey Kabobs, if you’re wondering “what’s in this tandoori turkey kabobs?” .. I would say a lot of flavor that comes packed with the following ingredients. It’s packed with cilantro, mint, garam masala and crushed red pepper, garlic, onion, coriander, cumin powder, cayenne, and ginger. You can add or remove spices based on what you have available at hand. It’s not too spicy but the heat level can definitely be adjusted to match your desired taste buds. Basically, the tandoori turkey kabobs are a burst of Indian flavors & spices and a total crowd pleaser.
Serve Turkey kabobs with salads, naan or parathas, or over rice. You can also make Kabob wraps by folding them in warm parathas / tortillas along with salad and any sauce that you like. They make a yummilicious lunch box meal.
The first step is to mix the ground turkey meat with the spices, garlic, onion ,cilantro, coriander, cumin, garam masala, cayenne, and ginger.
When I serve Turkey Kabobs to my kids, I usually wrap them in whole wheat pita bread with yogurt sauce (plain yogurt mixed with minced garlic, onion, chopped mint, salt and pepper), with salad on the side. My husband likes it with basmati rice and yogurt dip. Cook the basmati rice with pinch of salt and turmeric. For yogurt dip, I just added few herbs and spices that I had available in my pantry – i.e. some salt, chopped cilantro & mint leaves and chopped onions.
