Instant Pot Jeera Rice Recipe
Step 1: Prepare the ingredients - Gather the ingredients. Rinse the rice thoroughly atleast 4-5 times to get rid of the starch. Drain the water completely. Try to add all the spices from the ingredient list above to bring out the best flavors but if you don't have them all handy, you can add whatever spices you have handy.
Step 2: Temper the spices - Using the saute function, heat oil in the pot. Throw in the cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom pods and a bay leaf. Stir for 30 seconds.
Step 3: Toast the rice - Now throw in the washed rice and toast the rice grains in the oil for a minute. Add the water and gently stir scrapping of the bottom of the pot for any rice grains that might have been stuck during toasting.
Step 4: Pressure cook - Close the lid, seal the vent and pressure cook on high for 6 minutes followed by a natural pressure release. It takes about 10 minutes for the pressure to build.
Step 5 : Garnish and serve - Open the lid carefully. Fluff the rice with a fork. Garnish with fresh cilantro or a lemon wedge if you like and serve with a curry or Indian meal.
Jeera Rice Recipe - Stove Top Pressure Cooker
Follow steps 1 to 3 from above. Once you close the lid of the stove top pressure cooker, cook the rice on medium heat for 3 minutes. It takes about 2.5 minutes for cooker to come to pressure. Turn off the heat after 3 minutes and allow the pressure to naturally release. There will be no whistles in 3 minutes. Once the pressure releases follow step 5 from above.
Jeera Rice Recipe - Stove Top Pan
Follow steps 1 to 3 from above. Cover the pan with a lid and cook rice on low heat until all the water is absorbed by the rice. Once the rice is cooked follow step 5 from above.

Tips to make the best Jeera Rice ever
Quality of the rice - a good quality basmati rice that has been aged for 2 years at least.
Wash the rice thoroughly - this helps remove the starch and thus no gummy noodles.
Toast the rice - this is an important step if you want each grain to be separate.
Rice to water ratio - depending on what method you choose to cook follow the rice to water ratio accordingly
Natural pressure release - patience is the key here. Allowing the pressure to naturally release allows the rice to cook to the perfect consistency.

- 1: 1 rice to water ratio
- 6 minutes high pressure
- 10 minutes natural pressure release
Stove top pressure cooker rice to water ratio
- 1:1 rice to water ratio
- 3 minutes high pressure, turn off gas in 3 minutes before any whistles.
Stove top pan rice to water ratio
- 1:2 rice to water ratio
- cover lid and cook on medium heat until all water is absorbed.
