Description

Best Peas Pulao Recipe - Peas pulao is the definition of vegetarian comfort food. An aromatic rice dish made right in your Instant Pot for quick and delicious results, this flavorful rice and pea dish makes the perfect pairing for almost any curry. The best thing about this easy Pulao recipe is that it can be prepared at home without putting in much efforts and spending too much of time in the kitchen!


Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion/ thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup green peas -fresh / frozen
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup Basmati Rice or Jasmine rice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 2 Bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice and keep it aside.
  2. Press SAUTE mode on Instant Pot. When HOT  add oil or Ghee into the inner pot of the Instant pot.
  3. Add in the cumin seeds and bay leaf .
  4. Add in the green peas and  chopped onions and Saute it for a few minutes .
  5. Now add in the Basmati rice, water, salt and mix well.
  6. Close the lid on the pot, and turn the valve from VENTING to SEALING position.
  7. Press CANCEL button and set the pot to MANUAL/PRESSURE COOK (High Pressure) and set timer to 5 minutes
  8. Do a QUICK RELEASE (QR)
  9. Open the lid and gently fluff up the rice with a fork 
  10. Peas pulao is ready, serve with yogurt or any Indian curry 

Notes

  • Use long grain basmati rice or Jasmine rice to make matar Pulao.
  • Before starting to cook, rinse the rice in a strainer at least 3 to 4 times. This helps remove some of the starch and any other debris to help prevent the “burn” warning on the Instant Pot.
  • Prior to serving, use a fork to fluff the rice.
  • By adding the oil or ghee, you are helping prevent the rice from sticking together while the peas pulao cooks.
  • Use frozen or fresh peas. If you use canned peas, make sure you rinse them off well before cooking them.
  • You can add roasted cashews or fried paneer or tofu cubes to make a filling dish.
