Why should you make Peas Pulao in an Instant Pot
It’s no secret, the Instant Pot makes cooking rice much easier for the busy family. I use the Instant Pot for my peas pulao recipe as well as my Basmati rice and Jasmine rice recipes. To make rice in the Instant Pot, you just need to rinse the rice. You don’t need to presoak or constantly keep an eye on the rice as it cooks.
New to the Instant Pot and nervous to try your hand at pressure cooker cooking? Don’t be! This peas pulao recipe is a beginner friendly recipe to break in your new Instant Pot and you can find everything you need to know about Instant Pot cooking in our guide to the Instant Pot.
How do you make Peas Pulao in an Instant Pot? Step by step recipe
Peas pulao is very easy to make. To start, make sure you rinse the Basmati or Jasmine rice in a strainer 3 to 4 times. This helps remove starch and other small debris that could cause the Instant Pot to give the “burn” notice when cooking.
Next, cut the onion into small slices. Add the oil or ghee to the Instant Pot’s inner pot and press “Saute.” Let the oil heat up a bit then add the bay leaf and curry seeds. Cook the seeds and bay leaf for a few seconds until the seeds start to become fragrant, then add in the peas and onions.
Continue to saute the onions and peas for about 3 to 4 minutes. Turn saute mode off.
Add water, rice, and salt and mix well. Place the Instant Pot’s lid on top and set the vent to “sealing.” Select pressure cook manual to high pressure for 5 minutes.
When the timer goes off, do a quick release to get rid of the pressure. Carefully open the lid and use a fork to fluff the rice.
Serve hot either on its own or with a curry, dal, or yogurt. Enjoy!
