Tips to make the best Jasime Rice in Instant Pot

  • Always wash the uncooked rice a few times before cooking it. This helps get rid of the starch and will also avoid the rice from being too gummy.
  • Toast the rice in oil to help prevent the burn and gummy texture too.
  • Use the Instant Pot cup to measure the rice and water.
  • Use the 1:1 rice to water ratio.
  • We prefer the pressure cook function more than the rice. We have explained the details below.
  • When the rice cooks, turn off the 'Keep Warm' function to prevent the rice from scorching at the bottom.

Avoid using the Rice Button to make Rice

We have done a lot of experiments with the Rice function and feel that cooking rice using the 'Manua;' or 'High Pressure' function is much quicker and yields a better texture. The rice function takes a whole lot more time than the pressure cook function and with the instructions below, you will never go wrong and get perfect rice every time.

What is the water to rice ratio to cook Instant Pot Jasmine Rice?

We have tried different ratios and feel that 1:1 ratio works best for ALL (Basmati Rice, Brown Rice or Jasmine Rice ) types of rice in an Instant Pot. The only thing that changes is the time needed for the water to work it's way through the bran layer.

What is the Pot in Pot Method of making Jasmine Rice?

Pot in Pot method of preparing rice is an excellent way to prepare rice if you are afraid of the dreaded burn notice. In this method, you are adding the rice to another pot inside the main pot. This way the rice is not on the bottom of the pot and does not have any issues with burn notice.  The rice to water ratio and cooking times remain the same.

Do I need to rinse the Jasmine rice before I put it in Instant Pot?

Yes. Rinsing the rice grains 3-4 times helps reduce the starch content of the rice and helps in ensuring that you get fluffy rice every time. It also helps in reducing burn notices one can get while making rice. This fail-proof recipe has been shared more than 10K+ times on all social channels.

NATURAL PRESSURE RELEASE IS IMPORTANT

After the cook time is over, you need to release the pressure naturally. This ensures that the rice is properly cooked and comes out the way you like it.
