Jalapeno Poppers in Air Fryer
Our jalapeno poppers in the air fryer are some of the best we have ever tasted. Our poppers combine two different cheeses to create a perfect blend for these vegetarian delights.
And since we use the air fryer, we are cutting out a lot of extra fat. So you can feel good about eating these as a snack even if you are looking to cut fat or calories in your diet.
If you are in a hurry or preparing for a party, you don’t need to stress too much about these poppers. You only need a few minutes of prep time and about 6 minutes for cooking them, so you can make them last minute before guests arrive or anytime you are feeling hungry.

Why Use An Air Fryer For Jalapeno Poppers
An air fryer can help you reduce the amount of oil you use, which cuts down on how much fat you are eating. It’s a great option for anyone looking to reduce how much fat they eat or reduce their total calorie intake in a day.
One of the nice things about the air fryer is that they do a very good job of getting the poppers nice and crispy on the outside. The only real difference is the little bit of extra bite that a deep fried popper (or other food) would offer.
But it’s a good trade off for the added health benefits of not deep frying the poppers.
Ingredients For Air Fryer Jalapeno Poppers
When you want to make these spicy jalapeno poppers, this is what you’ll need:
- Jalapenos - You’ll need to deseed them and cut them in half lengthwise. There really is no substitution for fresh jalapenos in this case. Any canned or jarred variety will be too limp.
- Cream cheese - If you like, you could use a different type of cheese, like mascarpone, to stuff them.
- Seasonings - We use both garlic powder and freshly chopped parsley or chives with a little bit of salt to season them.
- Cheddar - You could use cheddar jack, pepper jack, or your favorite cheese if you prefer.
How To Cook Jalapeno Poppers In Air Fryer
- First, wash, dry, and cut the jalapenos in half lengthwise. Next, use a knife or your fingers to deseed the jalapeno halves.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, garlic powder, salt, and chives or parsley.
- Next, stuff the peppers so that the mixture is flat with the sides of the jalapenos. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top of the poppers and lightly press to make sure the shredded cheese sticks to the cream cheese.
- Once ready, preheat the Air Fryer to 370 F or 190 C.
- Carefully place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving a little space between them, and then cook for 6 to 8 minutes.
- Instead of using your air fryer, you could also bake them in a preheated oven at 375 F for 20 minutes if you prefer.
- Let them cool slightly before serving and enjoy!
Vegetarian Jalapeno Poppers using a Crisp Lid
Arrange the stuffed jalapenos in a single layer in the frying basket. Place the frying basket on a trivet. Cover and secure the Instant Pot or Mealthy Multipot with the Crisp Lid. Air Fry the jalapenos for 6 minutes at 375 F until the edges start getting charred and crispy tender.
Pro tips and tricks
When you make these jalapeno poppers in the air fryer, follow these easy tips and tricks:
- Don’t over stuff the pepper halves! The filling could spill out, which will end in a mess!
- Use fresh jalapenos only. Canned or pickled jalapenos are too soft and won’t hold their shape.
- For added crunch, you could sprinkle a few bread crumbs on top of the cheese before frying them to form a nice crust.
- Unlike other air fryer recipes, you do not need to agitate or flip these poppers. If you do, you could spill out the cheese stuffing!
How Long To Cook Jalapeno Poppers In The Air Fryer?
For our recipe, you will need to air fry the poppers for about 6 to 8 minutes or until the sides and tops of the peppers start to wilt some. If you have huge peppers, you may need to increase the time a bit.
Can You Put Bacon On These Jalapeno Poppers?
If you follow a vegetarian diet, then you definitely do not want to top or wrap these poppers in bacon. That said, there are vegan versions of “bacon” that you could use to top or wrap the poppers with if you like, but we have never tested the poppers with these options.
If you don’t follow a vegetarian diet, then you may find wrapping them in bacon desirable. We have not tested the recipe using bacon, so you will need to adjust cooking times accordingly.
How To Store These Air Fryer Jalapeno Poppers?
You can store the cooked peppers in the fridge for about 5 to 7 days. Before placing them in the fridge, you should place them in an airtight container. If you need to make more than one layer, place some parchment paper between each layer to keep them from sticking to each other.
How To Reheat Jalapeno Poppers In The Air Fryer?
To reheat jalapeno poppers in the air fryer, preheat it to 325 F. Once it is ready, place them in a single layer and cook for about 5 minutes or until warmed through.
You could also place them in a warm oven and bake until warmed through.
