My first memories of falling in love with Fruit Chaat is on the streets of Lajpat Nagar when I visited Delhi during summer holidays. The sweet fruits and the spicy masala was pure happiness. Once we were back in Mumbai, my mom recreated this Chaat with local fruits from Mumbai but the same masala and now I am doing the same for my son, recreating Delhi's fruit chaat, but with seasonal fruits available in the US right now. My son calls its Indian Fruit Salad which it truly is.
I often enjoy this chaat as a snack or when fasting.
Ingredient Notes
No fancy ingredients here, literally just pick up the fruits you already have at home, or what you see in stores in season. I was able to access the following fruits in September. I also created my own chaat blend for the spicy zesty kick.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to make Spiced Fruit Chaat or Indian Fruit Salad
Prep the fruits by washing, pat drying, peeling, coring and cutting them into cubes and slices. Add the spices , chaat masala, kala namak, red chili powder & black pepper powder. add lemon juice, mix and enjoy! Detailed recipe is in the recipe card below.
Anvita's Top Tips
- Always pat dry your fruit after washing or else wet fruit makes your chaat soggy.
- Add bananas and soft fruits at the very end so they stay fresh and don't get mushy.
- I personally think chaat tastes best when it's cold, so pop it in the fridge for a bit if you have time.
