Tips to make the best Jasime Rice in Instant Pot
- Always wash the uncooked rice a few times before cooking it. This helps get rid of the starch and will also avoid the rice from being too gummy.
- Toast the rice in oil to help prevent the burn and gummy texture too.
- Use the Instant Pot cup to measure the rice and water.
- Use the 1:1 rice to water ratio.
- We prefer the pressure cook function more than the rice. We have explained the details below.
- When the rice cooks, turn off the 'Keep Warm' function to prevent the rice from scorching at the bottom.

We have done a lot of experiments with the Rice function and feel that cooking rice using the 'Manua;' or 'High Pressure' function is much quicker and yields a better texture. The rice function takes a whole lot more time than the pressure cook function and with the instructions below, you will never go wrong and get perfect rice every time.
What is the water to rice ratio to cook Instant Pot Jasmine Rice?
We have tried different ratios and feel that 1:1 ratio works best for ALL (Basmati Rice, Brown Rice or Jasmine Rice ) types of rice in an Instant Pot. The only thing that changes is the time needed for the water to work it's way through the bran layer.

How to cook Instant Pot Jasmine Rice?
- Thoroughly wash the Jasmine Rice 3-4 times.
- Heat Instant Pot using the Saute function.
- Once the pot is hot, add coconut oil.
- Throw in the Jasmine rice and toast it for a few seconds. Add the same amount of water as the rice.
- Close the lid. Turn valve to Seal. Set Instant Pot to “Pressure” on high pressure for 6 minutes.
- When the timer goes off, turn off the 'Keep Warm' function and wait for approximately 10 minutes for Natural Pressure Release.

Instant Pot Basmati Rice / Zerra Rice
- Basmati rice- 1 cup
- Water -1 cup
- Oil- 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
- Green cardamoms pods - 2 (optional)
- Bay leaf -1 (optional)
Instant Pot Brown Rice
- Brown rice- 1 cup
- Water -1 cup
- Oil -1 teaspoon
Instant Pot Jasmine Rice
- jasmine rice -1 cup
- Water -1 cup
- 1 teaspoon oil
Instructions
INSTANT POT BASMATI RICE
We used Basmati Rice to make the Cumin Rice or Zeera Rice served at the Indian restaurants.Even if you decide to skip the spices, they rice to water ratio will remain the same.
- Heat Instant Pot to “Saute.”
- Add a teaspoon of oil.
- Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds, green cardamom pods and bay leaf. Give it a stir.
- Add a cup of rinsed Basmati rice.
- Add a cup of water and give it a stir.
- Close the lid. Turn valve to Seal. Set Instant Pot to “Pressure” on high pressure for 6 minutes.
- When the timer goes off, wait for approximately 10 minutes for Natural Pressure Release.
- Serve it warm.
INSTANT POT BROWN RICE
- Heat Instant Pot to “Saute.”
- Add a teaspoon of oil.
- Once the oil is hot, add the Brown rice
- Add a cup of water and give it a stir.
- Close the lid. Turn valve to Seal. Set Instant Pot to “Pressure” on high pressure for 15 minutes.
- When the timer goes off, wait for approximately 15 minutes for Natural Pressure Release.
- Serve it warm.
INSTANT POT JASMINE RICE
- Thoroughly wash the Jasmine Rice 3-4 times.
- Heat Instant Pot to “Saute.”
- Once the oil is hot, add the Jasmine rice
- Add a cup of water and give it a stir.
- Close the lid. Turn valve to Seal. Set Instant Pot to “Pressure” on high pressure for 6 minutes.
- When the timer goes off, turn off the 'Keep Warm' function and wait for approximately 10 minutes for Natural Pressure Release.
- Serve it warm.
