What are Pasta Chips?
Pasta chips use cooked pasta noodles as chips. Yeah, it’s really that simple! The “chips” have a crispy outside and a tender inside. And when we make them, they also have some added flavor from garlic powder and Italian seasonings. Also, our pasta chips are the perfect snack or side for some of your favorite Italian sauces or dishes. When we make them, they really don’t last long in the house. Why should I use the Air Fryer for Pasta Chips
If you don’t have an air fryer, we highly recommend getting one for pasta chips. The air fryer crisps up the outside of the chips nicely in a way that the oven can’t. It is the closest thing to deep frying you can get without actually deep frying. Are Pasta chips worth the hype?
We certainly think so! They have a crispy on the outside and tender on the inside texture that combines great with some salt and a bit of seasoning. When we make them, we often like to serve them alongside Italian style pastas so we can dip them in the sauce in place of bread. You can also serve them as snack to your hungry kids. Or you can always make them for yourself, the choice is yours!
?What are the ingredients to make the best Pasta Chips?
In order to make the best pasta chips, you’ll want to have the following ingredients:- Rigatoni noodles - You could use a similar shape and sized pasta if you don't have rigatoni noodles.
- Water- to boil the pasta
- Salt - You can use as much or as little as you like.
- Seasonings - You'll want both garlic powder and Italian seasonings.
- Olive oil - You could use another light tasting oil.
- parmesan cheese - You can use canned or freshly grated. Freshly grated has better flavor.
?How to make Pasta Chips in Air Fryer
Here’s how to make pasta chips in the air fryer.
- First, add 3 cups of water, sea salt, and rigatoni to the Instant Pot and stir gently before placing the lid on top. Next, set the vent knob to the sealing position and pressure cook the pasta on high for 3 minutes.
- When the cooking cycle is complete, quick release pressure immediately.
- Next, carefully pour the cooked pasta into a colander.
- As the pasta drains, preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
- Next, toss the pasta with olive oil, parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- When combined, add the pasta noodles to your air fryer rack or basket in a single layer.
- Finally, air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking at 4 minute intervals, or until they become golden brown.
?How to bake Pasta Chips in an Oven
- Though we prefer to use the air fryer, you can use your oven instead. When using the oven, first prepare the pasta using either your Instant Pot or stovetop.
- As the pasta cooks, preheat your oven to 375°F.
- When the pasta is ready, spread it in a single layer on a baking sheet or pan.
- Finally, bake for about 20 minutes or until they're deep-golden brown
?Pro tips and tricks
When you make pasta chips, follow these easy tips and tricks for best results:- When cooking the pasta, don't overcook it. You want it to be al dente not mushy.
- Don't crowd the air fryer and cook in batches if needed.
- For the best texture, break out your air fryer.
?What type of pasta is best for Pasta Chips?
We use rigatoni because it has a nearly perfect shape for “chips” and also a good thickness to the noodle. If you use a noodle that is too thin, it will dry out and harden in the air fryer. If you don’t have rigatoni, penne can work too. You may find that even a thicker cut lasagna noodle, broken into pieces, will work fine for the recipe too, but you may have to adjust the cook time slightly.?What seasonings can I use?
You can use the following- Pizza
- Ranch
- Garlic Lover
- Lemon Pepper Dill
- Spicy Fajita
Are Pasta Chips Vegan?
Most pastas use only flour and water, which means they are vegan naturally. When we make the chips, we use olive oil, but we also add parmesan cheese, so they are vegetarian, not vegan. It is super easy to make them vegan! All you need to do is either omit the parmesan cheese or use a vegan substitute. Can I use gluten free pasta?
You could use gluten free pasta, but you may need to adjust cooking times slightly to avoid them becoming too mushy when you cook the pasta. If you have a gluten allergy, this could be a good alternative for you.
What dips go well with Pasta Chips?
Our pasta chips have an Italian flavor to them which makes them go great with Italian sauces such as:- Marinara
- Sriracha Aioli
- Chick fil a sauce
- Pesto sauce
- Creamy Jalapeño dip
- Dill Dip
Can you make these without Parmesan
Yes, you can make them without parmesan if you want to make them vegan or just want to skip the cheese. We do find the cheese gives them a bit more crunch and texture, but you can skip it if you prefer.
How do I serve Pasta Chips
Pasta chips make a great appetizer, snack, or side dish. We often serve them with a side of marinara sauce or pesto sauce, but you can use your favorites. When you serve it alongside other Italian dishes, they make a great way to scoop up extra sauce and cheese, so they can replace bread or rolls at dinner if you like. If you love air fried foods, make sure you also try some of our other favorites:- Air Fryer Pickles

Your pasta chips look delicious and so crispy. Love the idea of seasoning with garlic and herbs.
Sarah Godfrey says
Parmesan is not vegetarian as it uses animal rennet, but there are plenty of Italian hard cheeses that you can substitute.
Jasmine says
@Sarah Godfrey, if they check the ingredient list for enzymes instead of rennet, it is vegetarian. Organic Valley is one that can be used.
Zelda says
Would this work with gluten free pasta?

Can you make ahead and store these?
